Ray Wyatt

As a 15 year old at Bryanston I immersed myself in the art of pottery, as well as understanding the joy of wood and stone carving.

Don Potter was my inspiration; a life force and free spirit. As his pupil he taught me to look for the beauty in the form, sympathy in the material and expression in the grain. If the finished sculpture "signs" then I am happy.

The influence of the natural form and flow of Hepworth's, Arp's and Skeaping's work is a strong influence in my sculpture. I feel it is important to have worked out the idea for the work before starting and to sustain this during the long process of carving. That is what Hepworth practised and taught.

Now retired from commerce, I enjoy creating beauty at Widcombe Studios, Bath
