Poppy James

Surfaces are my passion and I use them to make often dramatic images about places which evoke an atmosphere or a feeling. I love to take images and ‘play’ with them in different paint media on both conventional and unlikely surfaces. My media include egg tempera, oil, acrylic or gouache. Compositional and dramatic possibilities are most important to me when selecting an image to simplify and work with. Increasingly I am thinking about the way I present and frame images. The quest is to find the right medium, surface and presentation for a particular image.
