Linda Gates
My interest in ceramics began in California where my husband and I lived for eleven years. On returning to England in 2004, I applied to study ceramics at degree level at Bath Spa University and have recently graduated. There are many processes in the creation of the clay object, all of which could end in disaster, until finally the object is given up to the mercy of the kiln. It is the mixture of anticipation and trepidation when opening the kiln that makes clay, for me, such a fascinating medium. My recent work features the imagery of everyday iconic objects of the 1950's. Digital transfer technology allows me to cover my slip-cast objects with drawings of typical items of the era to create a vintage look.
